Volunteering

We are very fortunate to have two beautiful church buildings to worship in, but like all buildings they need to be regularly looked after, both for us and for future generations.

We always welcome new people coming forward to get involved in volunteering within the Parish. Below are listed some of the ways you could make a difference and make new friends in the process.

Gardening and Tidying the Church Grounds

All offers of help are gratefully received to assist us with keeping St Patrick’s Church frontage and car park tidy and free of weeds and rubbish. There are hedges and shrubs to regularly trim, so if you like a bit of gardening do get in touch.

At St John’s Church we have a large graveyard and car park to maintain and keep tidy, especially from invasive brambles and ivy. If you can spare some time (occasional or regular) to do some gardening, you would be most welcome here. Contact Austin Jenkins the Graveyard Manager if you would like to get involved in caring for the graveyard at St John’s Church.

If you are interested in finding out more about how you can help practically around the church, contact one of our Glebe Wardens:

Trevor Peoples at St Patrick’s Church- either in person at church, or by email: peoples345@btinternet.com

Jim Reid at St John’s Church to help with general maintenance – or speak to the Rector.

Painting and Varnishing

Having old church buildings always requires a degree of repainting of walls, doors, skirtings etc from time to time.  If you are willing to give a hand the next time we have a painting project to do, just let our Glebe Warden know, so you can be added to our willing band of volunteer painters.

Fundraising

To maintain our two churches costs a considerable amount of money.  To help cover these costs we organise a number of fundraising events and activities throughout the year such as: book sales, homemade cake sales, a fashion show, Christmas market stalls, coffee mornings, concerts, quiz nights and a series of Lenten Lunches.

If you would be willing to support with any of our planned fundraising events either on the day of the event, or in advance, by baking cakes for example, then please speak to the Rector, or directly to the event organiser if known to you. Even simple things like helping with the washing up at our events is a massive help and much appreciated.

Flower Arranging

If you enjoy flower arranging and would like to get involved in helping make our church look more beautiful for services throughout the year and especially for special occasions, or if you would like to donate flowers to the church for a special occasion, please contact:

Judith de Fleury at St Patrick’s Church by email: df@hotmail.com

Ann Thompson at St John’s Church by email: thompson5@outlook.com

Helping with Refreshments at Church on Sunday Mornings

Every Sunday morning at St Patrick’s Church after the 10.30am service we like to offer an invitation to remain for a cup of tea or coffee, plus a biscuit or bun, before heading home.  It’s a great way of making time to catch up with each other in church and to get to know new people attending church perhaps for the first time.

We have a rota of volunteers to look after the preparation of light refreshments each week in our Parochial Hall Kitchen. The task is not time consuming, and no baking required.

If you would be happy to give a hand in this way occasionally, please speak to the Rector or Mrs Paddy Rodgers at St Patrick’s Church any Sunday Morning.

Assisting with Regular Church Activities/Services

We offer a range of activities at our two churches, which include a Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, plus various clubs and groups that meet during the week. We are always keen to accept offers of assistance in all these areas of activity and fellowship.

If you feel you would like to get more involved in Sunday services, such as doing a  Bible reading or prayer, or assisting with other church activities please speak to the Rector or email him on mark205@btinternet.com
